This very famous vineyard is one of Pauillac's finest gravely outcrops. Located in the northern part of the appellation, it borders on Mouton-Rothschild, Pontet-Canet and Lynch-Bages.
The manor house of the Chateau itself lies north of Pauillac, on the way to Cissac. Built towards the end of the 19th Century it was owned by the Billa family until its sale to AXA Millesimes in 1987. THe estate has now been completely renovated. The vineyards were replanted and drainage greatly improved to ensure the vines met their full potential.
The 17 hectares of vineyards are planted 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, with an average age of over 20 years.
The wine is fermented for 15 - 17 days in tenperature-controlled stainless steel before 12 - 15 months aging in a combinationof 50% new and 50% one year old oak barrels. THe wine is made by the oenological team from Chateau Pichon - Longueville.
Today, its is one of Bordeaux's leading Cru Bourgeois wines, and represents a superb introduction into Pauillac with its large number of Grabd Cru Classe.
