Founded in 1781 as a wine grower and proprietor of vineyards in Cote Rolic, J. Vidal-Fleury is the oldest wine firm in the Rhone Valley.
Well-known and liked since the Middle Ages, this wine has always anjoyed the favors of french artists and intellectuals. For a long time a Côtes-du Rhône Villages, it has been granted its own appellation from the 1990 vintage.
Location and soil : East of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and south of Gigondas. Gentle slopes facing south and southwest. Red clay and pebblestones.
Vinification : Very traditional, with a long maceration in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Ageing of 6 to 8 months in larger french oak barrels.
Ageing potential : 3 to 7 years and more depending on vintage year.
Tasting notes : Deep and dark red color. A nose bursting with ripe red and black fruits. In the mouth, the wine is structured, round, full-bodied, fruity and peppery and leads to a very enjoyable lusty finish.
Food pairing : Red meat (lamb, beef), chili con carne, delicatessen (saussages, ham), cheeses.
